WATCH: Netizens criticize these teens for doing this during 'Penitensya'!

Penitensya, Filipino equivalent for Penance, is a tradition held during Holy Week, specifically on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The word Penance came from the Old French and Latin poenitentia which means repentance or the desire to be forgiven.

However, traditionally, Penance is viewed as a punishment and varying with the character with the offences committed. This act involves severe, mostly public, discipline, which may be both harsh and humiliating but is considered as a spiritual act.

But a trending video about Penance is making noise online. Netizens criticized the teens in the video for allegedly making fun of the tradition.

In the start of the video, what they are doing can be mistaken as a riot. Netizens also claim that the ones who are flagellating those who carry the cross seems lost with the purpose of the tradition.
